What is SouthernWiFi?
SouthernWifi is a free, community run wireless network based in the southern suberbs of Adelaide. We have built a network by using off the shelf and home made wireless networking hardware which is easily available to anyone.
We encourage people to learn about free wireless networking, and to meet other people and businesses in the area. You can connect for free and network with your mates over an unrestricted community network.
The Southernwifi network currently stretches from MorphettVale in the south to Aberfoyle in the north with many Access Points inbetween.
Want to know more? Register and have a look around the website, if you have a question, feel free to email me on dronus at southernwifi dot net or add me to your MSN messenger - dronus at hotmail dot com. Look forward to seeing you on the 10 network soon!

SouthernWiFi News : Its the start of a new Era
Posted by dronus on 2009/4/24 17:50:00 (136 reads)

SouthernWiFi is going off-line.

After nearly 10 years of serving the community providing free, high speed wireless networking I have decided to pull the pin and review lifes priorities.

Thank you all for being a part in an excellent demonstration on what humans can achieve by working together in the name of free open source networking.

Over the next month or so the Access points will start coming down, and the links to them will go off line. Each one will hurt me more than the last to take off-line but it has to be done.

I will have lots of wireless and networking hardware for sale if anyone would like to buy anything. If enough of the hardware gets sold - some of the proceeds will goto a BBQ in a park for a final hurrah, stay tuned.

I still strongly support the free community wireless networking movement and open source communities so I strongly encourage you to join AirStream (http://www.air-stream.org) and support them as you supported Southernwifi. I will become a member and support them.

Please email me (dronus) at this domain name if you require further info.

So Long, and thanks for all the fish.
